The ART

In this part I think… [Predicting and activating prior knowledge] Here is where the original prediction of what will be read is made possible in part based on prior knowledge. (Before reading) In my mind I see… [visualizing]Here is where the students create a picture in their minds about what they are reading. Could be a setting or character etc.
(During the reading)
This reminds me of…[making connections]Here is where the student makes a connection to other texts or self or life etc. (During reading) I wonder…[Asking questions]Here is where the student asks questions about the reading beginning with who?, what?, when?, where?, why?, and how? (During the reading)
I think the most important thing is…
[main idea]
Here is where the student identifies the main idea or most important idea of the reading that the author was trying to tell. (After Reading)
In 10 words or less… [summarizing]Here is where the student writes a VERY brief summary of the reading.
(After the reading)
After reading, my original prediction…
[clarifying]
Here is where the students decides if his original prediction was right, close, wrong and how might they use this to help future predictions. Makes note of any new words or meaning that stuck out or strategies they used to help.
(During and after reading)
My favorite part was…[connecting] Here is where the students identify a part that really stuck out to them. Could be good or scary something that inspired a reaction or response in them to the reading.
(After reading)
